All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm ===================================================================== ::Green Hill Cemetery--Davis OK Surnames: Gibbs Skaggs Originally Posted At: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/UaB.2ACI/1145 Chester Hugh Gibbs Funeral services for retired Murray County Commissioner Chester Hugh Gibbs, 80, were at 2:00 p.m. Dec. 31, 2004, at First Baptist Church with pastors James Densman and Jerry Cottrell officiating. He was buried in Green Hill Cemetery. Gibbs was born Aug. 19, 1924, to Efford and Chloe (Skaggs) Gibbs and died Dec. 28 at his home in Davis. He married Emagene Cottrell July 3, 1948, at Gainesville, Texas. Gibbs grew up in the Wynnewood and Davis area and was only 5 when his father died. When he was 7, he went to work with his uncles on the farm to help support the family. During World War II, he served as a corporal in the U.S. Army with the 45th Air Offensive in the Japanese Campaign. His unit received the Presidential Unit Citation, and he received the Asiatic Pacific Theater ribbon. He was self-employed in road construction and retired as county commissioner for District 3 after 12 years of service. He is survived by his wife, three children, Chester Hugh Gibbs of Wagoner, Joe Wesley Gibbs and his wife, Rhonda Lea of Davis and J.J. "Judy" Gibbs of Edmond, and three grandchildren, Richard, Elizabeth Jean and Joy Lea Gibbs. He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Royce and Wesley Gibbs. Pallbearers were Dean Noland, Jerry Don Raper, Gary Parsons, Joe Arms, Rocky Hughes and Dick Jones. Honorary pallbearers were Don Jones, Dale Noland, Elmo Rainbolt, D.O. Salter, L.E. Harmon, Henry LaNoy, Bo Saunders, Sam Jones and Lynn Dickinson.
