Hensley GILLETTE, Wyom. — Stergus W. Hensley, 91, of Breckenridge, Minn., died April 4, 2002, of natural causes. Cremation has taken place and a private graveside service will be held at Mt. Pisgah Cemetery in Gillette, Wyo., at a later date. Mr. Hensley was born on Oct. 8, 1920, to Leonard and Iva Helvey Hensley in Katie, OK. He grew up in rural Oklahoma and entered the U.S. Army in August of 1942, serving in the European Theatre during World War II as a surgical medic. He received an honorable discharge in October of 1945. He began working for Young Exploration Co. of Oklahoma City in 1946, as a driller on a seismograph crew. He moved to Gillette in 1947. For the next 15 years he worked in Wyoming, Colorado, Nebraska, Montana and returned again to Gillette. He married Phyllis Peterson on June 10, 1948, in Gillette. They had three children, and the Petersons eventually divorced. Mr. Hensley worked for Stockmens Motor from 1962 to 1967 as a shop foreman. He returned to work for Young Northern Exploration Co. in Wyoming, Montana and North Dakota. He married Mavis Jorstad Scheele on Aug. 5, 1969, in Casper, Wyo. She preceded him in death on June 4, 1997. In 1986 he retired, moved to Duncan and spent his time traveling and doing community service. He married Velora Fehling Krueger on Aug. 24, 1998, in Wahpeton, N.D. They resided in Breckenridge, Colo., until his death. Mr. Hensley was a lifetime member of the Church of Christ. He enjoyed hunting and fishing. Survivors include his wife Velora of the home in Breckinridge; a daughter, Kathy McCoy; a son, Chuck Hensley; five grandchildren, Rodney Rech, Tammy Hess, Christy Brothers, Derek Hensley and Erin Hensley; five great-grandchildrean all of Gillette; a stepdaughter, Jackie Schuster of Rock Springs, Wyo.; three stepsons, Kermith Krueger of Lehr, N.D., Kevin Krueger of Breckenridge, Curtis Krueger of Grand Forks, N.D.; seven step-grandchildren; and a stepgreat- grandchild.
