All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm ===================================================================== ::Wasco Memorial Park Cemetery--Wasco CA The Bakersfield Californian Lydia Virginia Jackson 1911 - 2003 Funeral services will be held on Saturday, January 25, 2003, at Peters Funeral Home Chapel in Wasco, at 2 p.m., for Lydia Virginia Jackson, age 91, who passed away January 22, 2003, in Bakersfield. Reverend Wayne Montgomery of Wasco Christ Community Church will officiate and interment will follow at Wasco Memorial Park. Lydia Jackson was born February 6, 1911, to Robert and Lydia McCormick in Garvin Co., Oklahoma. She graduated from Lula High School in Lula, OK, and then attended East Central State College in Ada, OK. She married David Bates Jackson on December 24, 1935, and he preceded her in death on October 11, 1984. In addition to serving her family as a homemaker, she and David were partners operating the family farm. She enjoyed cooking and her life was built around her family. John L. Prueitt School in Wasco was built on their family farmland. Lydia is survived by her daughter, Yvonne Blanton and husband, Kelly of Bakersfield; brothers, Loyce McCormick and wife, Beth of Brentwood, Joseph O. McCormick and wife, Tessie of San Leandro, and Troy J. McCormick and wife, Donna of Lafayette; sister, Alpha Tiner of Bakersfield; 2 grandchildren, Shelley Blanton-Stroud and husband, Andy of Sacramento and Timothy Blanton and wife, Julie of Alamo; 4 great-grandchildren, William Stroud, Henry Stroud and Bailey Jackson Blanton and McKenna Blanton. Her husband, her parents, one brother, James McCormick, and her great-grandson, Bates Jackson Stroud who passed away in 1988, preceded her in death. Jenny is remembered lovingly as a strong, steadfast, hardworking, loyal and yet mischievous person. Like many women who travelled to this region, hoping to build a better life during difficult dust bowl times, she successfully shouldered not only the traditional roles of devoted daughter, sister, wife, mother and grandmother, but also those of farmer, business woman, survivor.
