He passed from this life March 15, 2005 in Lindsay, Oklahoma. He married Vera Hamilton December 7, 1935. Four sons were born to this union: Donald, Harold, Gary, and Dale. After the death of Vera, his wife of 61 years, he married Lura Simmons in 1996. He had resided in the Lindsay area since 1930. Leon was a farmer who loved to grow broomcorn, cotton, corn, and alfalfa. He loved the land and delighted in watching the crops grow. In his life, he saw great changes in farming in the Washita Bottom. He began farming with a pair of mules, and when he retired, he was using a tractor with an air conditioned cab. He saw this area go from all manual labor in raising and harvesting crops, to the present day when all this is done by machinery. He did mourn the passing of the cotton sack and cotton gin and the broomcorn "johnnies" because he loved to work with his hands. He also enjoyed the company of all the laborers who "pulled bolls" and cut broomcorn. He enjoyed being a good neighbor and having good neighbors. He was saddened greatly when his special friends and neighbors Dean Gooch, Cecil Dacus and Emmett Toby passed away. He is survived by his wife Lura of Lindsay; sons Harold and wife Vicki of Dale, OK; Gary and wife Janice of Lindsay, OK; Dale and wife Carol of Lindsay, OK; a sister, Willie Ruth Sexton of Magnolia, Texas. He is also survived by 12 grandchildren, 23 great- grandchildren, 4 great-great grandchildren, many nieces, nephews, and other relatives, a special brother-in-law Vergil Hamilton, and special friends, Alvin Hamilton, Tex Edzards, all the children of Cecil Dacus, and numerous other friends and church family. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Vera, his son Donald, a brother Woody, two sisters, Pauline Winford and Faye Harmon, a grandson Yancy Wright, and a great-great granddaughter Kassidee Sheppard. Services will be held Saturday, March 19, 2005 at the Murray Hill Church of Christ at 2:00 p.m. David Smith and David Smith II, will officiate. Arrangements are under the direction of the B. G.
