Reno, will be in Chickasha later this Week. The man who had become familiar on city streets because he walked everywhere he went, claimed he was born March 29, 1845, in Houston County, Texas. Loper had lived in Oklahoma City for at least 35 years. He always walked everywhere he went and often would climb the stairs to his third floor room here at the hotel rather than wait for the elevator, the hotel manager said. It was only a few weeks ago that members of the Grand Temple church, where Loper attended, celebrated his 108th birthday by staging a party, ever since his 100th birthday, it had been an annual event of celebration by members of the Church. A member of the Golden Age club here, Loper was the oldest member of the club present at their first meeting when he was 105. He gave no special remedy for living to a ripe old age. Surviving are his two brothers, Charles Loper, of the Albany hotel, 121 S. Harvey, and Jess Loper, Pauls Valley. Article is from the Daily Oklahoman Tuesday, April 20, 1954 edition.
