Williamson Pays Tribute To Veteran One of the largest, if not the largest group of people gather for a funeral in Garvin county paid tribute to George Loper, Pauls Valley night patrolman, who was killed on duty early Monday morning. The American Legion, veterans organization of which Mr. Loper was a member had charge of the graveside services with J. H. Stufflebean in charge of the arrange- ments. In spite of the huge crowd and hundreds of automobiles which carried the sympathetic from the Methodist church to the cemetery, foramlities were carried on without delay. Special officers were posted on corners of the downtown district to direct traffic during the procession. The tribute paid the slain officer was fitting and complete, while the Legion ceremony was impressive. Williams after Reward County Attorney Clarence Bowie this morning received a letter from Attorny General Mac Q. Williamson who was among those who appealed to Governor Marland for a reward for the capture of the slayer and his accomplices. In this the state officer paid high tribute to the officer who was a personal acquaintance of his. He wrote: "It was certainly a matter of keenest regret to hear about the terrible tragedy of the killing of George Loper. He was one of the finest and most reasonable fellows that we have ever had on the local police force there. In addition, he was my good personal friend; and I hope you will extend to his relatives my sincere sympathy, when next you see them." "It was my intention to attend the funeral which I thought would be held tomorrow, but as stated to you over the telephone, it was impossible for me to be there in time for the services today." "You may rest assured that the forces of the State are now at work and stand ready to cooperate fully with you and Sheriff Seymour in doing everything which can possibly be done to bring the murderous gangsters to justice." "With personal good wishes to yourself and the others of the court house "family", I am Your Friend MQW:MH Mac Q. Williamson Pauls Valley Democrat, May 30, 1935
