All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm ===================================================================== ::Hillcrest Memorial Park--Bakersfield CA The Bakersfield Californian Velma Grace Mitchell Feb. 28, 1916 May 27, 2003 Graveside services will be held for Velma Grace Mitchell, age 87, on Saturday, May 31, at 11:00 a.m., at Hillcrest Memorial Park. Officiated by Pastor Marvin Dooley. There will be visitation on May 30, from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m., at Hillcrest. Mom was born on February 28, 1916, in Pauls Valley, Oklahoma, to Robert and Nellie Absher; she was the second born child of a family of 12 children. Mom married our Dad, Herman Mitchell on October 21, 1933, and they shared 62 years of marriage until Dad passed in 1996. Mom was also preceded in death by 2 sons, Robert James and Herman Wayne and 1 great-grandson, Everett Daniel. She is survived by 3 daughters and their husbands, Erma and Charles Thompson, Mary and Wayne Robinson, Linda and Wayne Hopfe and daughter-in-law, Marilyn Mitchell, all of Bakersfield; 10 grandchildren, 28 great- grandchildren and 14 great-great-grandchildren also survive her. Mom can be described by 1 word selfless, she devoted her life to her family and anyone else who needed her help. Mom spent many years donating her time to the Blind and Handicap Shop, and The Bakersfield Rescue Mission. She also was a faithful member of Niles St. So. Baptist Church. Mom loved to sew, garden, collect and sell antiques. Mom you will forever be in our hearts. Thanks Mom!
