Charles Wooten Sr. OKMULGEE -- Memorial service for former Fort Sill resident Col. Charles Wootten Sr., 65, Okmulgee, will be at 11 a.m. Saturday with Dennis Taylor officiating. The family will receive friends in the church foyer after the service. Col. Wootten died Wednesday, March 5, 2003. Arrangements are by McClendon-Winters Funeral Home, Okmulgee. He was born June 13, 1937, in Lindsay, to Doyle and Meedie Malone Wootten. He lived in Okmulgee for 33 years. He married Alice Wilson on Jan. 14, 1955, in Wichita Falls, Texas. He served as battalion commander of the 120th Engineers in Okmulgee before assuming command of the Camp Gruber Training Facility, from which he retired. He was a member and past president of the local Kiwanis Club. He was a member of the Okmulgee Elks Lodge, where he served as Exalted Ruler before assuming the office of secretary and ritual coach. Survivors include his wife, of the home; two daughters: Pam Wadsworth and her husband, Louie, Tulsa; and Lisa Bennett and her husband, Todd, The Colony, Texas; two sons: Charles Wootten Jr. and his wife, Becky, Owasso; and Scott Wootten, Los Angeles; three grandchildren: Justin and Rachel Bennett and Lindsay Wadsworth; two brothers: Doyle Norman Wootten Jr. and Glenn Wootten; two sisters: Odessa King and Ann Williams; and many friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; and a sister, Louise Smith.
