I, James Barnett of County of Scott and the State of Virginia, do make this my last Will and Testament in names and form following that is to say: First: It is my will that my funeral shall be conducted in a plain common way without unnecessary parade or expenses and that my funeral expenses and all my debts be paid out of my effects or those of my heirs that gets effects. Second: I give, devise and bequeath to my beloved wife, Elizabeth the plantation or part thereof where we now live bounded as follows to wit: beginning on top of the Big Ridge corner of the land that I deeded to my son, Eli Barnett, southward with said lines poles to his southwest corner; then eastward crossing the branch poles to a corner of the land that I deeded to William Barnett, (should be James William Barnett) my son and James Pierson, my son-in-law, then northward with said poles to T. E. Reynolds line and my old line as it runs to a sugar tree and as was B. B. Taylor's line in his lifetime, then northwardly including all land on the north side of the Big Ridge poles to the beginning containing one hundred acres or less during her natural life. Third: I also will and bequeath to my beloved wife, Elizabeth: 1. To have and to hold forever and that as the death of my said wife all the land that I give to my wife is to be divided between my daughters, Phoebe and my granddaughter, Mary, Peggy's girl as follows: Phoebe is to have all the land south side of the Big Ridge on top of said ridge, as described in Mrs. Barnett dour; and all the north side of the Big Ridge to Mary Barnett is to have from the line on top of said Big Ridge down on the north side as described in Mrs. Barnett's dour. Forth: I give and bequeath to my beloved wife, Elizabeth, all my household and kitchen furniture to have to hold forever and last, I hereby constitute and appoint Thomas Page my executor of this my last Will and Testament this 11th day of November, 1886, signed sealed and delivered in the presence of us. Wolf, Jacob Slone Virginia Scott County Court, 10 September 1889 The last Will and Testament of James Barnett, deceased was proved in Court by the oaths of Isaac W. Wolf and Jacob Slone, the subscribing witnesses thereto the same is thereforth confirmed and ordered to recorded.
