Ferguson moved to Minco, Indian Territory, in 1905. There were seven children in the family: Hugh F., Linus E., George S., Geneva M., Chattie M., Claud M., and Ross B. Mr. Ferguson had moved from Kansas in 1890 to a 160 acre farm six miles east of Union City, Oklahoma Territory, where he established a nursery business. He continued this business upon moving to an acreage a half mile north of Minco. They built a large concrete house during 1905-1906 while living in rented properties known locally as the "Green House" and the "Haley House". Mr. Ferguson planted maple trees on both sides of the access road from Canal Street north past his property to the Bingham house. This was known as "Lovers Lane" and later was made a part of US Highway 81. Mr. Ferguson was County Agent for Grady and Caddo Counties for a number of years and later worked for the Department of Agriculture as a District Agent until his retirement in 1925. He also spent some of his own time in New Mexico developing a strain of long-staple cotton known as "Acala". The children attended school at the El Meta Bond College and in the Minco Public School. Mr. and Mrs. Ferguson continued to live in Minco until they passed away. Ross B. Ferguson, the only surviving child, now lives at the Spanish Cove retirement center in Yukon, Oklahoma, with his wife, the former Louise "Pinky" Pope. Note: written sometime between 1976 and 1994. --------------------------------------------------------------------- Return to Grady County Archives: http://www.usgwarchives.net/ok/grady/grady.html
