George R. Davis, pastor of the First Christian church of this city, will be the principal speaker at the meeting of the Schoolmasters club at 6:30 o'clock this evening at Harry's cafe. Approximately 20 or more members of the club are expected to attend. Many Questions to Come up at Session Tonight. Committee reports dealing with a proposed street improvement program, the collection of delinquent water bills and a communication affecting a recent police department appointment are due for the council's consideration at the city hall Thursday night. Mayor C. A. Dearmon said Thursday the street and alley committee has prepared a written report on suggested development of a program to oil unpaved streets with property owners participating at a small cost. The matter was referred to the committee, composed of B. C. Moss, George Boysen and J. R. Sebastian, when it was brought to the council's attention by Mayor Dearmon two weeks ago with the observation that information should be given property owners who may take advantage of the opportunity for improving their streets. With the street department furnishing labor, supervision and equipment the cost to property owners will be only $31.12 a block, the purchase price of the oil, Mayor Dearmon said. The water committee was asked at the last regular meeting to submit its recommendation for action on a lengthy list of delinquent water bills and is expected to make that report tonight, the mayor state. The police committee has been studying a question relative to requirements fr radio operators since a question was raised over the replacement of the night desk sergeant with a first class operator. Opposition to the move was raised on the ground that a full time operator is not required, although the operator was appointed to handle the night desk sergeant's duties as well as his radio service work. -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Return to Grady County Archives: http://www.usgwarchives.net/ok/grady/grady.html
