All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm ========================================================================== The Verden News 16 January 1953 WILLIADEAN [ARTHURS] ACKLES FATALLY INJURED BY TRUCK Mrs. Williadean Arthurs Ackles, 27, of Gilroy, Calif., daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Vern Arthurs of Verden, was fatally injured when struck by a truck Thursday night, January 8. The accident occurred six miles south of San Jose, Calif. and Mrs. Ackles died about four hours later, according to information learned here. She had started to a drug store for medicine for her grandmother, Mrs. Henry Haygood, who was critically ill. Mr. Arthurs left Friday afternoon to return the body to Verden for burial. Arrangements are pending their arrival here which possibly will be Monday afternoon. Tentative plans are that funeral services will be held Tuesday afternoon at the Baptist Church. The Hansen Funeral Home will have charge of the arrangements. Mrs. Ackles’ grandmother, the mother of Mrs. Vern Arthurs, died Saturday, Jan. 10. Joint services for Mrs. Ackles and Mrs. Haygood will be held Friday, Jan. 17 at 1 p.m. at Gilroy, Calif. Mrs. Haygood will be buried there. Agnes Williadean Arthurs was born December 29, 1925 at Binger, Oklahoma and passed away at Gilroy, Calif., January 8, 1953, at the age of 27 years and nine days. She was married to Melburn Lee Ackles in Merced, Calif., Sept. 7, 1949. He died of polio. Survivors include her parents, two sisters, Mrs. Analee Hoskin, Colorado Springs, Colo. and Betty Jean Arthurs, Verden, four brothers, Raymond L., James H., Floyd, J., and Vern R., Jr., all of Verden; and her grandfather, Henry Haygood, Gilroy, Calif. and John N.
