BUCHANAN Funeral services for Samuel C. Buchanan, 86, of Ada, Okla., formerly of Verden, are pending with Criswell Funeral Home of Ada. Samuel C. Buchanan died on Monday, Dec. 16, 2002, in Ada. ========== The Chickasha Express-Star 19 December 2002 SAMUEL C. BUCHANAN Services for Samuel C. Buchanan, 86, of Ada, formerly of Verden, OK, will be 11:00 Saturday, at the First Baptist Church in Verden, with Rev. Johnny Wray officiating. Burial follows at Memory Lane Cemetery, Anadarko. Mr. Buchanan died Monday, Dec. 16, at an Ada Hospital. He was born July 22, 1916, to Samuel C. and Bertha M. Robinson at Koch Ridge, AR. He moved from Verden to Yukon in 1992 and from Yukon to Ada in 1995. He attended school at White Bread, Star and LaCrosse. He attended high school at Verden. His most enjoyment was baseball and softball. He played both throughout Caddo County. He married Evelyn V. Early on August 21, 1949, in Sickles Community in Caddo County. He was a farmer and a member of the Verden First Baptist Church. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He enlisted on July 12, 1943, and served as a Seaman, Second Class. He was discharged on Dec. 28, 1943. He is survived by his wife, Evelyn Buchanan, of the home; daughter, Denise Mills and her husband, Tim, Ada, OK; granddaughter, Jessica Mills of Ada; sister, Vivian Carlson and her husband James of Verden and a sister-in-law, Opal Buchanan of Verden. He was survived by many other relatives and lots of friends. He was loved by all who knew him. He was preceded in death by his parents, 4 brothers, Herbert, Fred, John and Ted Buchanan and 3 sisters, Eddie Deason, Emma Nicholas and Wilda Jean Buchanan. Bearers will be great nephews and a great, great nephew: Ronnie Tharp, Gary Tharp, Billy Bob Gilbert, Steve Patterson, Jerry Don Buchanan and Chad Tharp. Honorary bearers are: Dale Watson, Eddie Flood, Carl Nelson, Ray Watson, Bill McComas, Elmer Von Tunglen, Carlos McBride, Earl Venable, Jerrold Cox, Allen Rumley, Bob Savage and Floyd Kidwell. The family will receive friends on Friday from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. at Verden Funeral Home in Verden.
