Persons or organizations desiring to use this material for purposes other than stated above must obtain the written consent of the file contributor. ====================================================================== The Verden News July 3, 1942 LAST RITES HELD FOR HUGH MELTON BOHANNAN A large crowd was in attendance for funeral services held Monday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock at the Methodist church for Hugh Melton Bohannan, with Rev. C. W. Taylor, assisted by Rev. E. L. Spann, officiating. Music for the services was furnished by Miss Iva Lee Fowler, Mrs. Edd MaGuire, Mrs. Harry Dodson, Mrs. R. M. Caldwell, W. F. Brewer, George Tidmore, R. M. Ransbarger and F. G. Ransbarger who sang "Beautiful Garden of Prayer," "Beautiful Valley of Eden" and "In the Garden" with Mrs. Ransbarger playing the piano accompaniment. Flower girls were Miss Georgia Woodall, Miss Colita Nuernberger, Miss Adeline MaGuire, Miss Madge Pease, Miss Betty Lou Linn, Miss Lillian Nath, Miss Charlotte Nowland, Miss Dorothy O'Neal, Miss Betty Ann Hayden, Miss Imogene Powell, Miss Anita Handke and Miss Pauline Whitley. Pallbearers were Clarence Newsom, Howard Watson, Thomas Allen, Charles Kern, Johnny Whitley, Jack McLane, Gerard Osborne and C. W. Tawlor. Honorary pallbearers were Andrew Handke, Avery Paul Compton, Louis Allen, Marvin Willis, Ray and Wayne Venable, Sam Loveless and Willie Perdue. Hugh Melton was born Feb. 22, 1926 in Verden and died from a heart attack while in swimming Saturday night, June 27, at Shannon Springs at Chickasha. He was reared in this community and attended the Verden schools, where he was a very active member of the F. F. A. Chapter. He was a member of the Methodist church. Surviving members of his family are his parents, Mr. and Mrs. H. A. Bohannan. Interment was made in the Verden Cemetery with the Hansen Funeral Home in charge. Out of town relatives here for the funeral services were Mr. and Mrs. Bill Hopkins of Texarkana, Texas, Mrs. A. M. Sanders of Ralston, Okla., Mrs. W. Davis of Cold Springs, Okla. and Mrs. Mary Bolden and mother, Mrs. Bolden, of Heavener, Okla.
