Services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, August 16, 2003, at Providence Baptist Church, Shreveport, La. Officiating will be Brother Howard Cole, pastor of Providence Baptist Church. Interment will follow in Providence Baptist Funeral Cemetery. The family received friends from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m., Friday, August 15, 2003, at Rose-Neath's Southside Funeral Home. Raymond was born August 23, 1931, in Toro, La, to Riley Melton and Sarah Woolley Byrd. He was a resident of Shreveport, La. and a former longtime resident of Alex, OK. Raymond was retired from Mobil Oil Company in 1988. His true passions were fox hunting with his hounds and playing his music. Raymond Riley Byrd was preceded in death by his parents, also his first wife of 51 years, Gladys Amaree Davis Byrd, of Shreveport, and one sister, Gloria Verlene Byrd, of Ft. Lauderdale, GL. He is survived by his second wife, Sarah Elizabeth Byrd; son, Eddie Ray Byrd and wife Sandy of DeBerry, TX; daughter, Gladys Yvonne Johnson and husband Morgan of Benton, La.; granddaughters Michael Nash and husband Jeff of Shreveport, La., and Angelica Byrd of DeBerry, TX; grandson Cal Ferguson and wife Stephanie of Baton Rouge, La.; brothers Melton Byrd and wife Floy Mae, Eunice Byrd and wife Daisy, all of Lake Charles, La., and Sherman Donnell Byrd and wife Bonnie of Shreveport, La.; sister Lillie Leach and husband David of Shreveport, La; numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, and many friends. Pallbearers will be Jason Byrd, Jeff Nash, Tommy Ray Dowden, Buddy Self, Roger Connell, and Carl Bond. Honorary pallbearers will be Howard Bush, Frank McKenzie, Jack McEntyre, and Jeff Boyt. The family would like to express their sincere appreciation to the doctors, nurses and staff of Willis Knighton Hospital.
