All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm ===================================================================== ::Post Cemetery--Ft Sill OK 4/22/2003 Brown, Robert Bryan Robert Bryan Brown, Major, United States Army Retired, passed away April 19, 2003. Bob was born July 9, 1917 in Rush Springs, OK to Henry E. and Mittie Hales Brown. He was preceded in death by his parents and sisters, Jessie Lee Fuller and June H. Blackburn. Bob worked in the Civilian Conservation Corps and then enlisted in the Army in 1932, attaining the rank of Master Sergeant in 1941. He served with the 6th Division in New Guinea and Luzon-the Philippines in WWII. He was commissioned as a Lieutenant in 1951 and served with the 625th Field Artillery Battalion during the Korean War. He was also stationed in Kentucky, Virginia, Maryland, Texas, Louisiana, Hawaii, Missouri, and Oklahoma. He was in extensive combat during WWII and Korea and received numerous awards including: The Bronze Star for valor; Army Commendation Medal; Asiatic Pacific Campaign Medal; WWII Victory Medal; American Defense Service Medal; Philippine Liberation Medal; Philippine Presidential Unit Citation; Good Conduct Medal (3 awards); United Nations Service Medal; Korean Service Medal (3 bronze stars); Korean Presidential Unit Citation; Armed Forces Reserve Medal; and the National Defense Service Medal. He retired as a Major in 1963 after serving his country for 30 years. Bob was a member of the Masonic Lodge and India Shrine Temple, Guthrie Scottish Rite. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Evelyn M.; his sons: Robert H. & Donna Brown of Arlington, TX, and Ronald O. Brown of Oklahoma City; brother-in-law: Charles Blackburn of Tahlequah, OK; cousins: Raymond & Mary Brown of OKC, Billy & Zelma Brown of OKC, and James Hales of OKC; grandchildren: Alan Brown of OKC, Aaron Brown & wife Melissa of Springfield, MO, and Brian Brown of Arlington, TX; great grandchildren: Dakota, Dalton, and Daisy; and numerous nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends. He was disabled due to military service, and was in ill health for many years. However, his sense of humor and outgoing personality was a joy to all who knew him. He always found a way to make people laugh and have fun. He never met a stranger and was always ready to lend a helping hand. He was greatly loved and will be deeply missed. The family gives special thanks to Dr. Carl Rubenstein whose wonderful care for so many years extended Bob's time with us. Funeral services will be 10:00 AM, Wednesday, April 23, at Vondel Smith Mortuary, South.
