Dakota Steven Burnes was born Sept. 11, 1997, in Chickasha, and died on Tuesday, July 16, 2002, in Oklahoma City. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery under the direction of Ferguson Funeral Home. ==================== The Chickasha Express-Star 18 July 2002 DAKOTA STEVEN BURNES Dakota Steven Burnes was called home July 16, 2002. We were truly blessed to have Dakota in our lives. Although he was only here a short time, this time was full of love and happiness. Dakota touched so many with his strength and his love for life. He will live in our hearts forever. Services will be held Friday, July 19, 2002, at 10:30 a.m. at the Bible Baptist Church with Rev. Kim Hayes officiating, under the direction of Ferguson Funeral Home. Dakota Steven Burnes was born September 11, 1997, in Chickasha, Oklahoma. Dakota was preceded in death by his great-grandfather, P. B. Burnes, and great-grandmother, "Grandma Jessie" Burnes. Dakota is the son of Dennis Shane Burnes. Dakota is survived by Dennis Shane Burnes; his very special grandparents, "Poppa" Martin Burnes and "Maamaw/Mom" Shirley Burnes; his very dear brothers Daniel "Danny" Shane, Derek Shawn, Devin Sterling, and Khristian Drake; his special aunt Jennifer "JJ" Burnes, of Lewisville, TX; great-grandparents Faye and Ralph Brooksher, of Chickasha; great-uncle Jim Brooksher, of Littleton, CO; great-uncle Danny and aunt Charlotte Burnes, of Ninnekah; great-aunt Peggy Reed, of Ninnekah; and numerous cousins and friends. Additionally, his 4-wheeler family, the Chickasha Fire Department Family, his new Harley Davidson family, and very special sitter Shirley Gabriel. Dakota was also part of so many grandparents' lives through the Grandparents United Association. Dakota touched all that knew him and was blessed to be part of so many people's lives and they a part of his. He enjoyed watching his brother's baseball games, watching his Poppa and Maa-maw ride their Harley and occasionally sitting on it himself, riding his go-cart, Oklahoma Sooner sports, posing for pictures, Sponge Bob Square Pants, 4-wheeling in Colorado, his dog Aspen and cat Sassy, Aunt JJ's big dog Harley, watching race cars on TV, and just being around all of the people who he knew loved him. Dakota, our sweet child, our hearts are aching but you are in a better place. May you rest in peace.
