All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm ========================================================================== The Chickasha Express-Star 29 September 2003 MARY PAULINE BARNETT Funeral Services for Mary Pauline Barnett, 94, of Chickasha, will be held Wednesday, October 1, 2003, at 10:00 a.m. in the Ferguson Funeral Home Chapel with Jerry Barnett officiating. Mary Pauline Barnett was born October 18, 1908, in Luella, Texas, the daughter of Jesse Henderson Still and Katie Della Boggs Still. She died Saturday, September 27, 2003, at her home in Chickasha. Pauline graduated from Meridian High School, a rural school located northwest of Chickasha. She obtained a Bachelor's of Science from OCW (now USAO). She also attended Central State University, Oklahoma A & M (now OSU) and the University of Oklahoma. She married Halbert Milton Barnett on April 13, 1929, in Anadarko, Oklahoma. Mrs. Barnett taught 42 years. Her career spanned from high school to elementary school at Bradley in Grady County, meridian in Stephens County, Valley View and Meridian of Grady County, Pocasset and later Amber- Pocasset. During her career, she was the Masonic Lodge Teacher of the Year and served as Vice-president of the Grady County Teachers Organization. Over her 94 years, Pauline participated in a variety of community activities including 4-H Club being the first National Dress Revue winner and a County and State Honorary 4-H member later in life. The Barnett family was the Farm Bureau State Farm Family of the Year Runner-up in 1962. She was an active member of the Daughters' of the American revolution and Kappa Kappa Iota which is a retired teachers organization. Mrs. Barnett was President of the Meridian Extension Homemakers Council. Pauline was an active member of the Pocasset United Methodist Church where she served as pianist until a few years ago; vacation Bible School Music Director and Teacher; as well as Chair of several Church committees and Sunday School teacher. She was preceded in death by her husband, Halbert, both parents, one sister (Betty Lorene Hammer) and one grandson, Brad Barnett. Mrs. Barnett leaves behind three children, Mary (Maridell) Melton of Killeen, Texas, Jim Barnett of Norman and Beth (Reigh) Edwards of Chickasha. She has eight grandchildren, and nine great grandchildren.
