All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm ===================================================================== ::Cremation BILLUE - Sylva B., 66, died Thursday, September 20, at Baptist Hospital. She was born in Chickasha, OK, to Syverma Rogstad and Gaines Billue. She received a BA and MBA from the University of Oklahoma, where she was a member of Delta Delta Delta sorority. She is survived by: 2 sisters, Gayna Veltman and Cathi Billue; a brother, George Billue; 5 nieces, Cindy Wood, Laura Solliday, Krista Valluzzo, Syvenna Siebert, and Lily Siebert; 3 nephews, Lee Veltman, Neal Siebert, and Kitz Siebert; 3 great-nephews, Harrison, Murphy, and Pierson Valluzzo; and 2 great-nieces, MacKenzie and Margana Wood; and a host of people who knew her as a loyal and generous friend and who loved her like a sister. Ms. Billue was an artist in wood, whose work is exhibited in galleries here and in Santa Fe; she made furniture and turned bowls that are prized by those who own them. She was also a philanthropist, chiefly concerned with the welfare of women and girls. She was a generous contributor to the Women's Resource Center of Greensboro, the Women's Fund of Winston-Salem, Lillian's List, and the Women and Gender Studies Program at Wake Forest University. In 2001, she endowed the yearly Phyllis Trible Lecture Series at the Wake Forest School of Divinity to honor University Professor Phyllis Trible and to communicate her interest in feminist theology. Earlier, in 1987, she established the Syvenna Foundation in honor of her mother in order to create a writer's colony for women writers; several whom have since published books with major publishers. She was a past member of the Wake Forest Board of Visitors and active in civic and professional organizations. A Memorial service will be held at 2 p.m., Tuesday, September 25, in Brendle Hall, on the Wake Forest University campus. In place of flowers contributions may be made to the Women and Gender Studies Program or to the Phyllis Trible Lecture Series at Wake Forest University, Winston-Salem, NC 27109.
