All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm ========================================================================== The Chickasha Express-Star 27 May 2003 DENNIS CAVALIER Memorial services for Dennis Cavalier, 58, of Pampa, Texas, formerly of Chickasha, Okla., will be held at 4 p.m. on Wednesday, May 28, 2003, at Harvester Stadium in Pampa, with Steve Porter, a Baptist minister and Pampa High School teacher, and Dr. Randy White, pastor of First Baptist Church, Officiating. Arrangements are by Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors of Pampa. Dennis Cavalier was born August 6, 1944, at DuBois, Pennsylvania, to Eugene and Norma Cavalier. He died on Saturday, May 24, 2003, in Pampa. He graduated from Southwestern College in Winfield, Kansas, with his B.A. degree and was an All-American football player. He received his master's degree from Wichita State University. He Married Kathy Heitschmidt on July 5, 1969, at McPherson, Kansas. Cavalier was a resident of Pampa since 1987, where he served as athletic director and head football coach of Pampa High School. He was the football coach who turned Pampa's boys into men for 16 seasons. In his 16 years there as coach, the Harvesters went to the playoffs nine times, including three trips to the regional round, once to the quarterfinals, and to the semifinals in 1996. In 1999, he was named coach of the decade by the Amarillo Globe-News. He compiled a 107-68-2 record at Pampa. He won his 100th game as a Harvester and his 200th game overall last season. He had coached in Kansas for 13 years and in Chickasha for six years, and from 1987 to present in Pampa. He was a member of the Texas High School Coaching Association, Southwestern College Hall of Fame, and First Baptist Church of Pampa. Survivors include: wife, Kathy of the home; 2 sons and daughter-in-law: Andy and Wendy Cavalier of Pampa, and Tony Cavalier of Amarillo; 2 daughters and son-in-law: Katy and Brian Moone of Norman, Oklahoma, and Abby Cavalier of the home; mother, Norma Cavalier of El Paso, Texas; 2 brothers: Richard Cavalier of Westampton, New Jersey, and Tom Cavalier of El Paso, Texas; 1 grandson: Casen Cavalier, of Pampa; and 1 granddaughter, McKenna Cavalier, of Pampa. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Pampa Independent School District, Athletic Department Scholarship Fund, c/o Sandy Clark, 101 Randy Matson Avenue, Pampa, Texas 79065.
