All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm ===================================================================== ::Arlington Memory Gardens--Midwest City OK Duncan Banner 1 Jan 2003 Mellie Geneva Wood Caskey SHAWNEE — Mellie Geneva Wood Caskey, 77, of Tecumseh died Monday, Dec. 30, 2002, in Tecumseh. Service will be at 1 p.m. Friday in Open Door Church of God in Shawnee with the Rev. Art Bostic and the Rev. John Keeling officiating. Burial will be in Arlington Memory Gardens in Midwest City under the direction of Gaskill-Owens Funeral Chapel of Shawnee. Mrs. Caskey was born June 19, 1925, in Rush Springs to Fred David and Neoma Woodard Pate. She grew up in Rush Springs and Duncan before moving to Chickasha at the age of 17. She married George C. Wood on Nov. 3, 1945, in Chickasha, and remained married until his death in 1991. She had lived in the Shawnee area since 1978 and later married Erven Caskey on Oct. 25, 1997, at Open Door Church in Shawnee. She owned and operated Wood’s Christian Book Store in Shawnee from 1978 to 1990. Prior to that she worked in Electronics at Tinker Air Force Base and retired from Tinker in 1980 after 14 1/2 years of service. Mrs. Caskey was a member of Open Door Church where she served in the Ladies Auxiliary. She was also a member of the Christian Booksellers Association. Survivors include her husband, Erven, of the home; two daughters and sons- in-law, Janice and Dick Hinesley of Tecumseh and Jackie and Paul Vanderburg of Carrollton, Texas; a son, Reginald Wood of Shawnee; six grandchildren, Wendy Zenor, Kandy Robbins, Robin Pryor, Brad Vanderburg, Nicole Wood and Brandy Gresham; 23 great-grandchildren; a brother, Bill Pate of Marlow; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Virginia and Ben Rice of Duncan and Wanda and Joey Tannehill of Chickasha; and brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Medford and Elzora Wood, Houston and Beth Wood and Fern Wood. She was also preceded in death by her parents; a brother, J.B. Pate; a sister, Carmie Freeman; a step daughter, Nadine Chronister; and two great- grandchildren, Megan Zenor and Cassidy Gresham.
