A celebration of her life will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Tuesday, January 7, 2003, at Laverty Baptist Church. She was the 10th of 13 children and the 1st of 4 daughters. Ada Caldwell and Roy Cates, Sr., were married on November 3, 1928, in Chickasha, OK. She and Roy farmed in the Laverty/Cement area for 57 years. They raised cotton, peanuts, watermelons, and hay and ran a small dairy operation. She worked along side her husband; plowing, planting, milking, feeding, and harvesting their crops. Most of their land had to be cleared of trees and brush before it could be farmed, a process that was done without the use of tractors and dozers. In addition to the farm work, she maintained a loving home where she prepared meals for her family and the hired hands. Ada became a Christian through the radio ministry of Dr. E. F. Webber. She led her husband and each of her children to the Lord through her faithful living. She was an active member of the Laverty Baptist Church until her health failed. Sunday dinner might include beef, pork, or chicken they had raised, pies she had baked on Saturday and was always large enough to include their pastor and friends. She always saw the positive in those around her and through her unconditional love she became a blessing to her family and those who knew her. On Friday, January 3, 2002, at the age of 90, she experienced what the apostle Paul wrote in the Word, "to be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord." She was preceded in death by per parents, great-grandson Justin Cornwell in 1976, grandson Danny Zachary in 1977, son-in-law Carl Richison, Jr., in 1978, husband Roy Cates, Sr., in 1989, daughter Mary Frances Richison in 1990, great-grandson Clifford Cates in 1990, son Roy Cates, Jr. In 1994, daughter-in-law Minnie Cates in 1995, great-granddaughter Danna Kay Golden in 1996, and nine brothers. She is survived by two daughters and their husbands: Gwen and Dan Zachary of Cement, OK, Linda and Bryan Lynn of Cement, OK; three sisters: Ruth Kensell of Edmond, OK, Evelyn Ellis of Plano, TX, Maxine Hightower and husband Bill of Lexington, OK; eleven grandchildren: Sandra Cornwell and husband Roy of Fletcher, OK, Michael Cates of Cement, OK, Deborah Jackson and husband Mickey of Cyril, OK, Pamela Touchet (her caregiver) of Cement, OK, Phyllis Thompson and husband Gary of Cement, OK, Janet Rice and husband Randy of Oklahoma City, OK, Annette DeVore and husband Allen of Oklahoma City, OK, Mary Kay Zachary of Chickasha, OK, Bryan K.
