Johnny Tims of the First Baptist Church officiating. Reba was the first child born to William Thomas and Edna Pearl (Crumby) Calhoun, in Sherman, Texas. Her dad worked for the railroad, and the family was moved from Sherman to Chickasha for a short time around 1930. It was during this time she met and fell in love with Loyd Cole, son of William Frank and Agatha Cole. After the family returned to Sherman, Loyd would catch a ride on a freight train to visit Reba in Sherman. In November 1932, the couple got Reba’s uncle to drive them to Durant to get married. They found a minister to marry them, but forgot to go out to get Reba’s sister, Tincy, and a friend, who had come along to witness the wedding and were waiting in the rumble seat in the car. Upon her marriage to Loyd, the couple made their home in Chickasha. Mr. Cole was a homebuilder and grocer. Loyd and Reba owned and operated Cole’s Grocery Store located at 16th and Grand for many years. Reba has been a member of the First Baptist Church in Chickasha for over 60 years, and was active in her church and study groups while her health allowed. She enjoyed bowling and her bridge clubs, and had many friends. She loved the trips they took together, but her greatest enjoyment was time spent with her family. Reba is preceded in death by her parents, William Calhoun, 1970, and Edna Pearl Crumby Calhoun, 1985, both of Sherman, Texas; her only brother Billy Ray Calhoun, 1975, and an infant grandson, Loyd in 1965. She is also preceded in death by her only son, Jerry Lynn Cole, March 4, 2000. Reba is survived by her loving husband of almost 68 years, Loyd Cole, of the home; daughter Janelle Kendall and husband Don Kendall of Chickasha; daughter Janice Wehling and husband Jerry Wehling of Chickasha; daughter Judy Cole of Yukon; daughter-in-law Peggy Cole of Chickasha; grandchildren include Lisa Ramsey of Boca Raton, FL; Jeff Kendall of Chickasha; Brett Cole of Oklahoma City; Greg Cole of Sugarland, TX; Jerry Ray Osborn of Phoenix, AZ; Michelle Wills of Oklahoma City; and Jennifer Garner of Oklahoma City. Her great grandchildren include Wesley and Whitney Cole of Sugarland, TX; David Kendall of Chickasha; J.J. Osborn of Phoenix, AZ; and the latest sweet addition, Emily Cole of Oklahoma City; Reba’s two sisters, Dorothy Fowler of Sherman, TX and Tincy Blake of Sweetwater, TX, and special caregiver Misty Musick. Reba was a survivor of breast cancer and met several other health challenges but never lost her smile or her love of life. Memorials in Reba’s name may be made to the Oklahoma Medical Research Foundation, “Stroke Research,” 825 Northeast 13th Street, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma 73104. Services are under the direction of Ferguson Funeral Home.
