Officiating at the service was the Rev. Gay Templeton. Burial was in Chickasha's Fairlawn Cemetery under the direction of McRay's Verden Funeral Home. Mrs. Cowan was born 30-Dec-1912 in Headrick, Jackson county, Ok. to Edgar Harrison Booker and Jessie Inez (Hofman) Booker. She married David Crockett Cowan 16-Feb-1936 in Stillwater, Payne county, Ok. She grew up in Jackson county, later attending Southwestern State Teachers College in Weatherford, Custer county, Ok. where she obtained a Lifetime Teaching Certificate. After her marriage she and her husband moved to Altus, Jackson county, Ok. where they lived until moving to Grady county, Ok. in 1942. She was employed as a legal secretary for over 30 years, retiring in 1975. She was a Cub Scout Leader, a precinct official for the town of Verden and a longtime active member of the Democratic Party. She was a member of the Professional Business Women's Club, Altrusa and the Verden United Methodist Church. She was an avid fisherman and enjoyed making quilts and afghans. Over the years she had made over 100 quilts and afghans for members of her family and close friends. Preceding her in death was her husband on 20-Sep-1993; one son, James Michael Cowan on 01-Mar-1997; her parents; and one brother. Survivors include three daughters and son-in-law, Jean Anne McKee of Anadarko, Linda Cowan of Chickasha, and Sandra and David Harriman of Laverne, Ok.; one son and daughter-in-law, David C. Jr. and Margaret Ann Cowan of Verden; 13 grandchildren; 25 great grandchildren; three brothers and three sisters and their extended families in Ohio.
