Curtis was born in the state of Alabama Feb. 28th, 1846, where he resided until after the close of the war between the states when he moved to Mississippi, where on Nobember 16, 1869 he was married to Miss Mary J. Martin. To this union was born a son and daughter. In the spring of 1882 the family moved to Texas where he and family resided until the fall of 1906 when he came to Oklahoma, locating at Verden where he continued to reside until his death, which as we announded last week, occurred Monday, Jan. 12th, at Norman Oklahoma at which place he was receiving medical attention. Mr. Curtis was one of the first grain merchants of our town and was one of the most highly respected citizens. Funeral services were held at the M. E. church under the auspices of the I. O. O. F. of which order he was a member. The funeral sermon was preached by his paster, the Rev. Blackwood. Interment was made in the city cemetery. He is survived by his wife, son and two brothers and a large circle of friends to mourn his departure. He lived to a ripe old age and died respected by all who knew him. Submitted by Sandi Carter
