All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm ===================================================================== ::Sanders FH--Eureka CA Jack Otto Carter January 25, 1921 to November 25, 2006 Jack Carter was born on the family farm in Chickasha, OK, in 1921, the second child of Clabe and Josephine Carter. The family migrated to southern California during the Depression of the 1930s becoming a hard-working part of the fabled ‘Okies’. After Pearl Harbor, Jack wanted to join the Marines but the “line was too long.” He was able to serve proudly in the US Coast Guard during WWII and married Mary Clark in November of 1942 wearing his military uniform, as was common at the time. Jack and Mary moved to Eureka in 1950 where he successfully owned and/or managed several service stations over the years. After retiring, Jack greatly enjoyed volunteering his time as a member of SCOPE. He was also a member of the first Babe Ruth Board of Directors and enjoyed promoting youth sports for many years. Jack and Mary were married for 62 years. He was preceded in death by his beloved Mary in 2004 and second daughter Kathy in 1997. Jack is survived by daughters, Karen Fay and Kristy Norton as well as son-in- law Ross Fay and grandchildren Kelly Huber (Todd), Casey Norton, Patrick Fay (Mindy), Andrew Fay and new great-grandson, Benjamin Fay, whom he was scheduled to meet on the day he passed away. He is also survived by his three loving sisters, Ura Gene Orme, Patsy Ruth Murphy and Betty Lou Russell. Jack was well known for his infectious smile, direct manner and amazing recall of amusing stories. Every conversation either started or ended with a joke. He will be dearly remembered and forever missed as the lovable ‘bull in a china shop.’ Services will be held at Sanders Funeral Home, 1835 E Street, Eureka, Friday December 1, 2006, at 1:00 PM.
