All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm ========================================================================== The Chickasha Express-Star 2 March 2004 JAMES ALLEN DEATHERAGE Mr. Deatherage was the 6th of 10 children born to Stephen and Annie Morgan Deatherage on February 16, 1916, at Maud, OK. He departed this life on February 23, 2004, at Chickasha, OK. Mr. Deatherage enlisted in the U.S. Army as a young man during WW II. He held the rank of sergeant with the U.S. Army First Calvary Division. He was stationed at Ft. Bliss, TX, and overseas in the South Pacific. After he received an honorable discharge, he and his wife, Jolene, returned to Norman and farmed many years close to Hollywood Corner. He loved the game of baseball and played in high school. He was also employed with Sears and the University of Oklahoma as a painter until his retirement in (1985). He moved his family to Noble in (1975) where he and his wife remained until August of 2003. They then moved to Chickasha, OK, to be close to their daughter. He became a Christian in (1959) and held his membership at the Noble Church of Christ. Over the years he kept in contact with two of his Army buddies; Verle Reed of Hollandale, Minnesota, and Willard Gray of Childress, TX. He was preceded in death by his parents, eight siblings and one son-in-law; James L. Wood. Those who survive him include his wife of 52 years, Jolene, of the home; one daughter, Verna Wood of Chickasha, OK; three grandchildren, Thomas, Skye and Dusty Wood, all of Chickasha, OK; one brother, Rex Deatherage of Choctaw, OK; many nephews and nieces and other friends and relatives. Services were held at 1:00 p.m., Wednesday, February 25th, 2004, at Memorial Chapel Funeral Service of Noble. Rod Carroll officiated. Casket bearers were; Jiggs Leslie, Stick Nelson, Clayton Fox, Craig Deatherage, Tommy Deatherage, and Bill Williams. Honorary Bearers were Dr. Joe Riddle and Dale Piper. Interment with military honors from Ft.
