Persons or organizations desiring to use this material for purposes other than stated above must obtain the written consent of the file contributor. =============================================================================== The Chickasha Express-Star 28 May 2002 Alleen Downs Funeral service for Alleen Downs, age 93, of Chickasha, was held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, May 27, 2002, in the McRay Funeral Home Chapel. Alleen was born the daughter of Ben Phillips and Bertie Orrell Phillips on January 25, 1909, in Chickasha. She died May 24, 2002, in Chickasha. Alleen grew up in Chickasha and attended Chickasha High School. She graduated in 1928, and was a charter member of the Chickasha High School Pep Club. After graduation, Alleen began working for Montgomery Wards. On July 22, 1929, she married Stuart Downs in Hobart, Oklahoma, and they made their home in Chickasha. In 1941, Alleen began working for the Singer Company. She and her mother later started their business which they names Sewing Services. They specialized in making bound button holes, covered buttons, belts and buckles, and monogramming. She later worked for Sonya's Dress Shop. Alleen was a member of the Southern Oaks Church of Christ. Alleen was preceded in death by her husband on August 11, 1980. She was also preceded in death by her parents and one sister, Lois Carter. Survivors include: daughter: Beverly J. Moody, of Chickasha; 2 granddaughters: Darra S. Bullard, of Oklahoma City, and Marta L. Jividen, of Abilene, TX; grandson: Randell S. Moody, of Missouri City, TX; great grandchildren: Ryan Bullard, Regan Bullard, Rusten Bullard, Paul Jividen, Sarah Jividen, Kyle Moody, Meghan Moody, Jennifer Demar. Interment was in the Rose Hill Cemetery under the direction of the McRay Funeral Home.
