All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm ========================================================================== Tuttle Times 30 March 2005 JIMMIE ALLEN DUNCAN Jimmie Allen Duncan, 81, of Paola, Kansas, entered eternal peace Wednesday, March 23, 2005 at the Overland Park Regional Medical Center. Funeral Services were held 1:30 p.m. Monday, March 28, at the First Christian Church, Paola; burial in Hillsdale Cemetery, Hillsdale, Kansas. Friends called 6:00 to 9:00 pm. Sunday at the Wilson & Son Funeral Home, Paola. Memorial contributions may be made to Paola Sunrise Lions Club and/or Paola Senior Center, care of Wilson & Son Funeral Home, 305 North Pearl Street, Paola, Kansas 66071 (913) 294-2372. Jimmie was born February 12, 1924 in Fort Scott, Kansas to George and Olive Miller Duncan. He was one of a set of twins born prematurely; the other did not survive. Jimmie was raised in Fort Scott and graduated from Fort Scott High School with the class of 1942. Shortly after high school he was employed by the Frisco Railroad for which he worked as a clerk for more than 30 years before retiring in 1974. He was a dedicated member of the International Brotherhood of Railroad Clerks. Jimmie was united in marriage to Marie Frances Fisher on June 24, 1945 in Paola and together they became the proud parents of four sons. After their marriage, they made their home in Paola. Jimmie lived on Pearl Street for almost sixty years. Jimmie was very active within the Paola community. He was a member of the First Christian Church, Paola Lodge #37 AF & AM where he was a member for 59 years and served as Master in 1956, and the Order of Easter Star, where he was a past Worthy Patron. Jimmie was a member of Ruritans, a charter member of the Sunrise Lions Club, and for many years in 1960's and 1970's a member of the National Campers and Hikers Association. He volunteered for the local blood bank and worked on the election board for many years. He served on the boards of directors of the Paola Senior Center and the Paola Housing Authority. One of Jimmie's favorite pass times was visiting with his many friends. He enjoyed going to the Senior Center for lunch and getting together with friends for dinner. Jimmie made the comment many times to his children "when someone said let's go I have my hat on." He also enjoyed the many trips the family would take every year, camping, watching Kansas city Royals and St. Louis Cardinals" games and Jayhawk basketball. He is preceded in death by his parents, his beloved wife, Marie Frances Duncan, on November 6, 1992; two brothers, his twin brother and Darrel Duncan; his daughter-in-law, Kena Duncan, and one nephew. He leaves behind to cherish his memory his four sons, Myrl Duncan, of Topeka, Kansas, Dale Duncan, of Kansas City, Missouri, Keith Duncan, of Tuttle, Oklahoma, and Brian Duncan, of Salina, Kansas; one brother: Gerald Duncan, of Lake Kabola, Kansas; four grandchildren: Kyle and Katherine Duncan, and Traci Cook and Terri Thomas; four great grandchildren: Timmie and Hailey Thomas, and Cole and Zach Cook; a niece, a nephew, great nieces and nephews, cousins and a host of friends all of whom will miss him dearly. -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Return to Grady County Archives: http://www.usgwarchives.net/ok/grady/grady.html
