Casket bearers were Roy Taylor of Anadarko, Elmer Hinkle of Chickasha, Eckel Hinkle, Kenneth West, Jimmy Hall and Floyd Henricks. Susan Frances Vaughn was born on November 4, 1863 at Barbourville, Knox County, Kentucky and passed away at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Grace Henry at 12:45 a.m. Monday, March 24, at the age of 94 years, four months and twenty days. She was married to John R. Evans on April 8, 1878 at Jellico, Tennessee. They came to a farm two and one-half miles north of Verden in 1903 and moved to Verden in 1916. Mr. Evans passed away on March 17, 1924. Two sons also preceded her in death, Lee Evans at the age of 28 years and Willie at the age of three. Mrs. Evans, "Aunt Sue" as she was affectionately called, was converted at an early age and joined the Baptist Church soon afterward. She worked faithfully in her church through the years. She had taught a Sunday school class for about 60 years before failing eyesight forced her to retire from leading an active life. Hers was the life of an early pioneer. She worked hard for her livelihood and made her own living until recently when she fell from her chair on February 7 and broke her hip. Survivors include two children, Mrs. Henry of Verden and Ernest Evans of Chickasha, two grandchildren, four great grandchildren, six great great grandchildren, other relatives and a host of friends. -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Return to Grady County Archives: http://www.usgwarchives.net/ok/grady/grady.html
