EASTEP Graveside services for Oren G. Eastep, 96, of Chickasha, will be held Tuesday, November 18, at 2:00 p.m. in the Fairlawn Cemetery, with Esten Leonard officiating. Oren G. Eastep was born November 23, 1906, in Yeager, Oklahoma, the son of James T. Eastep and Martha (Carroll) Eastep. He died November 16, 2003, in Chickasha. Oren grew up outside Holdenville, Oklahoma, on the family farm. He attended and graduated from Holdenville High School. After high school graduation he attended college and graduated from Oklahoma A & M, now Oklahoma State University. He married Neva B. Nixon on July 2, 1929, in Chandler, Oklahoma. After graduating from Oklahoma A & M, he attended Iowa State in Ames, Iowa, where he received a degree in Veterinary Medicine in 1939. Oren came to Chickasha in 1939 from Stillwater, Oklahoma, and established a veterinary clinic, which he operated until entering the Armed Forces in 1942. He served in the U. S. Army as a veterinary officer with various types of unites for twenty-seven months. He was honorably discharged from the Army in 1945 as a captain. He was awarded several medals including a Pacific Theater Ribbon and a Bronze Star. After being discharged he returned to Chickasha, where he continued in his veterinary practice until 1956, when he became a civil servant serving as a Federal Meat Inspector. He retired from civil service in 1972. Oren was an avid fisherman. Oren was preceded in death by both parents, his wife, and three sisters. Survivors include two daughters: Judith Crump and husband Bobby, of Chickasha, and Sharon Riddell, of Yukon, OK; one sister, Lawis "Tiny" Dill, of Tulsa, OK; one brother, Woodrow Eastep, of California; seven grandchildren: Barry Fitch and wife, Teresa, James Fitch, Dwain Fitch, Keith Fitch and wife, Julie, Bryan, Neva Jane Bowen and husband, Randy, and Randy McClendon; and ten great grandchildren. Memorial donations may be made to the Oklahoma State University Foundation, College of Veterinary Medicine, P. O. Box 1749, Stillwater, OK 74076-1749 Services are under the direction of Ferguson Funeral Home.
