Betty Jean Edge was born Aug. 30, 1933, and died on Tuesday, March 11, 2003. Burial will be in Fairlawn Cemetery under the direction of Sevier Funeral Home. ========== The Chickasha Express-Star 13 March 2003 BETTY JEAN EDGE. Funeral service for Betty Jean edge, 69, of Chickasha, will be held at 1:30 p.m., Friday, March 14, 2003, at the Bible Baptist Church. Betty Jean Edge was born August 30, 1933, in Galveston, Texas, to Hurtis James Jackson and Allie Reba Christopher. She went to be with her Lord on March 11, 2003, in Chickasha, after a courageous battle with cancer. In 1946, the family moved to Lamarque, Texas, where she lived until graduation in 1951. She lived in Houston, Texas, and the surrounding area for several years, during which time she worked as an administrative assistant at NASA Spacecraft Center in the late 1960s. She moved with her children to Chickasha in 1971 where she was employed for many years by her uncle and aunt, Fred and Lavicia Standley at Standley's Office Machines. She married Willard J. Edge, Sr., on December 13, 1975. She also worked for the Chickasha Clinic for approximately 5 years and then on to Shanoan Springs Nursing Home. That is when she decided to return to school and subsequently earned her Nursing Home Administrators License in 1986. In 1987, she accepted the administrator's position at Cimmaron Nursing Home in Kingfisher, then went on to Second Shamrock, also in Kingfisher, until she retired in 1995. Her love for the care of the elderly resulted in a short retirement and she returned to Second Shamrock in 1997. When that home was closed, she went over to First Shamrock until her illness was diagnosed in November 2001. Since then she resided in her home in Chickasha. She is survived by: her husband of 27 years, Willard J. Edge, Sr., of the home; her mother: Allie Hicks of Chickasha; 3 daughters: Larie Hinson of Chickasha, Rene Huggins and husband, Jerry, of Chickasha, Michelle Smith and husband, Wayne, of Lawton; 1 son: Michael Florey and wife, Regina, of Chickasha; 2 stepdaughters: Peggy Ratcliff of Oklahoma City, Susan Bliss and husband, Mark, of Oswego, Kansas; 2 stepsons: Willard J. Edge, Jr., and wife, LaDonna, of Noble, David Edge and wife, Patty of Hugo; 16 grandchildren; 5 great grandchildren; 1 stepsister: Yvonne Douglass and husband, Bill, of Premont, Texas; 1 brother: Jerry Jackson and wife, Lucy, of Colorado Springs, Colorado; 1 sister: Penny Brown of Los Angeles, California; several nieces, nephews and cousins. Interment will be in the Fairlawn Cemetery under the direction of Sevier Funeral Home.
