Edward Sigurd Ersland was born in Chickasha, Okla., to Albert Arthur and Jennie Bertha (Schow) Ersland on 17 September, 1919. He graduated from Chickasha High School in 1938, and attended Oklahoma University until entering the Army in 1942. He served with the 5252 Engineers in Canada, New Guinea and the Philippine Islands. He married Ruth Weichel in Toronto, Canada, after the war. To this union were born four children: Susan Witten, of Richardson, Texas, Rev. David Ersland, of Greenleaf, Kan., Lorenzo Ersland, of San Rafael, Calif., and Lois Ersland, of Shawnee, Okla. In addition to his four children he is survived by 7 grandchildren and one brother, Albert A. Ersland, II, of Chickasha, Okla., and his second wife, Marge Weichel (his first wife's sister) who was also a WW II veteran, serving in the Royal Canadian Nurse Corps. He was preceded in death by both parents, his first wife, Ruth Weichel, and two brothers, Albert A. Ersland I, and John Anfin Schow Ersland. Edward worked at the Washita Valley Abstract Company in Chickasha, the Army Library in Ft. Still, Okla., and the Oklahoma Highway Patrol, from which he retired in Shawnee, Okla. He was an accomplished amateur artist, having taken commercial art at OU. He was also an avid gardener, who had a 10-acre plot and a greenhouse where he raised flowers, various shrubs and trees. He loved traveling and his family often went to Canada and Europe. He was very active in church work. Also a Lutheran he also helped with many mission projects and service in other churches. Due to the scattered homes of survivors, from Hong Kong, New Zealand, and Canada, services are pending.
