All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm ========================================================================== Verden News 15 February 1946 ERICKSON SERVICE HELD AT BAPTIST CHURCH Funeral service for Constan Erickson, pioneer citizen, were conducted at 2:30 p.m., Wednesday, at the First Baptist Church with Rev. W. O. Cooley officiating, assisted by Rev. C. W. Taylor. Music for the service was furnished by Mr. and Mrs. Floyd Adkisson, Mrs. J. N. Kern and F. G. Ransbarger, who sang "Abide With Me." "Have Thine Own Way," and "Beautiful Isle." Mrs. F. G. Ransbarger was pianist. Casket bearers were L. E. Seago, J. N. Kern, Sam Crumm, J. M. Pease, Kirby Whitley and B. N. Heisler. Interment was in the Verden Cemetery with the Hansen Funeral Home in charge. Constan Erickson was born September 11, 1860, in Merlurida, Karmalan, Sweden, and died at 7:05 p.m. in the Chickasha Hospital, February 11, 1946, at the age of 85 years and 5 months. His family came from Sweden in 1871 and settled at Woodhul, Illinois where he was apprenticed out for five years to learn blacksmith and wagon making. He was naturalized in 1882. July 29, 1886, he was united in marriage to Christina Mathilda Ericson at Stromberg, Nebraska. They made their home at York, Neb. until 1890 when they moved to Toulon then to Kawanse, Illinois. His wife preceded him in death in 1900. In 1901 Mr. Erickson and his sons moved to Apache and then to Verden in 1903, where he has since made his home. He retired from the blacksmith business in 1939. He was a member of the Swedish Lutheran Church. Surviving members of the family include three sons: Carl of Amarillo, Texas, Chris of Cushing, Oklahoma, and Varner of Elk City, Oklahoma; one brother, Charles of Woodhul, Illinois and three grandchildren.
