All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm ========================================================================== The Chickasha Express-Star 1 March 2004 PHYLLIS GRACE (BURCHETT) FENIMORE Phyllis Grace (Burchett) Fenimore died Saturday, February 28, 2004, in Stillwater, Oklahoma. Services will be Tuesday, March 2, at 10:30 a.m. at the First Presbyterian Church in Stillwater. Dr. B. Gordon Edwards will officiate the service. Burial will be in the Elmwood Cemetery in Woodward, Oklahoma, at 3:00 p.m. on the same day, with long time friend Sam Fisher conducting the graveside service. Phyllis was born June 29, 1927 to Ray S. Burchett and Vera Mae (Jackson) Burchett in Fairview, Oklahoma. Phyllis grew up and attended school in Seiling, Oklahoma. She was the oldest of 5 children. She graduated from Seiling High School in 1945. Phyllis attended Oklahoma A&M in 1946 and was a member of the Alpha Delta Pi Sorority. While in college Phyllis was chosen as one of the top Aggie Beauties and is featured in the 1946 Redskin school annual. She remained very active in her sorority long after leaving college and received a Diamond Circle Award for 50 years of active membership in 1996. She retained long and lasting friendships with many of her sorority sisters. During the election of Governor Henry Bellmon, she was a "Bellmon Bell" and later served on Bellmon's state personnel board from 1963 to 1969. She was also an Eastern Star, PEO Chapter member in Woodward, Chickasha and Stillwater and a member of Gamma Sorosis in Woodward. She married Harry L. Fenimore on February 8, 1947, in Seiling, Oklahoma. She and her husband made their home in Woodward and raised their 3 children there until they moved the family business to Chickasha, OK in 1976. Phyllis served as office manager for the business for 28 years. She and her husband later moved to Stillwater, Oklahoma, where they have resided for the past 20 years. The family business of 49 years is now being operated by their two daughters and their husbands in Chickasha where the business still resides. She was preceded in death by her parents and her only son, Jerry Allen Feni more. She is survived by her husband, Harry Fenimore, two daughters; Janice Smith and her husband Steve; Jeanice McDonald and her husband Mike all of Chickasha. She is also survived by four grandchildren, Leslee (Smith) Holiday and her husband Matt of Austin, TX; Matt Smith of Dallas, TX; Zac Smith who is attending OSU in Stillwater, and Megan McDonald, a senior at Chickasha High School, two step grandchildren, Michael McDonald and his wife Lisa of Marlow, OK, and Heather (McDonald) Ferrell and her husband Scott of Denver, CO, one great grandson, Jackson Holiday of Austin, TX, and two step great grandchildren, Cole McDonald of Marlow, OK and Ayden Farrell of Denver, CO; three brothers, Wendell Burchett and his wife Barbara (Gabby) of Boulder, CO; Stuart Burchett and his wife Carolyn of Weatherford, OK; Steve Burchett and his wife Sue of Cedar Crest, NM; one sister, Beth Jackson and her husband Bill of Seiling, OK, one brother-in-law, Bob Fenimore and his wife Veta of Stillwater, OK, and one sister-in-law, Shirleinne Jennings and her husband Bud of Woodward, OK, as well as many beloved nieces and nephews. Phyllis leaves behind a kind and loving spirit. Her smile will be remembered by all who knew her. Words of praise fall short as we close the book on a truly Christian lady.
