GIBSON Wesley G. Gibson, 54, of Norman, Oklahoma, died Thursday, April 11, 2002, in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. Funeral services were held at 1:00 p.m., Monday, April 15, 2002, at McFarlin Memorial United Methodist Church in Norman, Oklahoma, with Reverend Phil Fenn officiating. Interment will follow at 3:30 p.m. at the Rosehill Cemetery in Chickasha, Oklahoma. Services are under the direction of Havenbrook Funeral Home of Norman, Oklahoma. Mr. Gibson was born November 29, 1947, in Chickasha, Oklahoma, to William Wesley "Jack" and Ruby Rosetta Ferguson Gibson. He grew up in Chickasha and graduated from high school in 1966. He attended the University of Arts and Science in Chickasha and was the president of his fraternity, Delta Chi Delta. In 1974, he graduated with a law degree from the University of Oklahoma and has been practicing law since then. Wes chose to work in public service, where he felt he could make the biggest difference. He first worked for Legal Aid of Western Oklahoma, then became the Chief Legal Council for the Mental Health Department. He also worked for the Federal Public Defender's office of the Northern District of Oklahoma, the Cleveland County District Attorney's office, where he was the Assistant District Attorney and the State of Oklahoma Department of Securities. Since April 1991, he has worked as a trial attorney in the capital trial division of the Oklahoma Indigent Defense System. During the eleven years Wes worked for the Indigent Defense System, he successfully represented all of his clients who faced the death penalty, keeping all of them from receiving a death sentence. Friends and family will remember Wes for his brilliant mind, his thoughtfulness, sense of humor, strong personality and his love of movies, music, nature, animals and the mountains. Wes's personality was rooted in all the things and people he loved and the world alone fascinated him. He loved to talk about those things, to tell stories and listen to other's experiences. He was a man with so many ideas and dreams and he always supported his family and their goals. He was an amazing person to be around, to take trips with and to talk with. Wes leaves behind his best friend and wife, Judy, and three sons, Aaron, Ryan and Adam. He will be dearly missed by all, but he lives on in our memories, our stories and our hearts.
