After retirement in 1986 from Kmart, he worked in maintenance at Sleepy Hollow Elementary School until 1994. He was a good and loving father and papa. He was preceded in death by a grandson, Larry Carpenter; and a great-great-grandson, Wyatt Nebgen. Survivors include his wife; a son, Sterling L. Guthrie of Amarillo; three daughters, Jennie Thornberry and husband, Gary, and Kim Bender and husband, Marvin, all of Amarillo, and Jan Smith and husband, Nolden, of Martindale; a brother, Ronnie Guitar of Minco, Okla.; four grandchildren, Michael Thornberry and Raquel Hudspeth, both of Amarillo, Brandon Thornberry of Round Rock, and Keri Nebgen of Jacksboro; and eight grandchildren.
