Gilliam, age 70 years, was instantly killed Sunday afternoon when he fell from the car in which he was riding, and broke his neck as he struck the hard road. Gilliam lived on his farm seven miles northwest of Minco. Sunday afternoon some men from Oklahoma City had been at his farm ...line unreadable... the place, but drove away without giving him their address. He turned to his son Floyd who was at the home and said he believed he would run across the field and head them off to get the address. Floyd said "Wait a minute Dad, and I will take you in the car." They started out, and when about a mile north of Minco, Gilliam's hat blew off, and his son admonished him to just remain still and he would stop and get the hat, but Mr. Gilliam was nervous and in a hurry, thinking htey would be delayed longer he opened the door of the car and started to jump out after the hat before Floyd could get the car stopped. He fell to the road, striking his head, causing his neck to be broken. Floyd jumped from the car, but his father was dead before he could pick him up. The body was taken to Oklahoma City where it was prepared for burial. Funeral services were conducted Monday at the Baptist Church in Minco. Mr. and Mrs. Gilliam formerly lived in the Friend Community but moved to a farm northwest of Minco three years ago. He is survived by his wife and four children, a son in Oklahoma City, another son at Sapulpa and Floyd of near Minco, and a daughter at Lawton. --------------------------------------------------------------------- Return to Grady County Archives: http://www.usgwarchives.net/ok/grady/grady.html
