Smith, Arkansas, formerly of Chickasha, will be Friday, September 6, 2002, at 10:00 a.m. in the Fairlawn Cemetery. Flora Naomi Sanford George was born July 21, 1912, in Muskogee, Oklahoma, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Sanford. Her mother was a homemaker and her father painted and hung wallpaper. Flora grew up in the Depression. Her family were some of Oklahoma's earliest Latter Day Saints (Mormon), and she has spoken of the Elders holding church meetings in their home. Flora met and married Orville Jess George. Over the course of their marriage, they gave birth to four sons: David Edward, Richard Gerald, Dennis Dale and Douglas William. Flora and her family opened George's Steak House in 1947. It became an institution in Chickasha for many decades. Flora moved to Arkansas on May 17, 2002, to be near her son. Her life ended on September 3, 2002. Flora was preceded in death by both parents, her husband Orville, her sons David and Richard, and grandson Dennis Clark George. Flora is survived by her sons Dennis George of Chickasha and Douglas George of Fort Smith, AR; six grandchildren David George, De Ann George Johnson, Monique George, Denton George, Nicole George and Sarah George; as well as seven great-grandchildren. Services are under the direction of Ferguson Funeral Home.
