HOOPER Funeral service for Dr. James L. Hooper, 84, Chickasha dentist, will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, July 16, 2003, in the Chapel of Sevier Funeral Home. Graveside service will be held at 3:30 p.m. at the Pawnee Cemetery, Pawnee, Oklahoma. Dr. James L. Hooper was born October 19, 1918, at the family farm west of Pawnee, Oklahoma, to George O. "Jack" and Mabel B. (Atherton) Hooper, and died Friday, July 11, 2003, in Oklahoma City. Jim attended Olive Hill Rural Elementary and graduated from Pawnee High School in 1937. He attended Pawnee Junior College and Oklahoma State University. Jim entered the United States Air Force in February 1942 where he served as Staff Sergeant in Italy, Africa and parts of Europe. He attended St. Louis University in St. Louis, Missouri, and graduated as Doctor of Dental Surgery in 1951. He began his practice in Chickasha, Oklahoma, that same year and continued until March of this year. Jim was known and loved by his many friends and patients in Chickasha and surrounding cities. He was a generous and caring person who was always ready to help those less fortunate. He enjoyed life on his farm east of Chickasha where he spent many years raising thoroughbred race horses, with pride in Green King. However, the love and joy of his life was his daughter, Deborah Lynn Hooper, who preceded him in death in November, 1986. He was also preceded in death by: parents; sister, Wilma Kite Fryer; brothers: C. Donald Hooper and John H. Hooper. Survivors include: sister: Blanche L. Ray of Oklahoma City; brother and sister-in-law: Dr. and Mrs. Clifford L. Hooper of Edmond, Oklahoma; sisters-in-law Pauline Hooper of Stillwater, Oklahoma, Katheryn Hooper of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; cousins: LaVerne Rapp of Oklahoma City, Frances Beklehymer of Bothell, Washington; many nieces and nephews; loyal secretary of many years, Karen Trotter. All will miss him and remember his quick smile and the laughter he shared. Interment will be in the Highland Cemetery, Pawnee, Oklahoma, under the direction of Sevier Funeral Home.
