Wednesday at the Pentecostal Church of God with Rev. Cecil Williams, pastor, officiating and Rev. C. E. Holt, Chester, assisting. Music for the service was furnished by Mrs. Hoodie Spoon, Mrs. Mildred Lyne, Mrs. Vier, and Mrs. Velma Thomas, all of the Chickasha Pentecostal Church of God, and Mrs. Fred Reece, Verden, who sang "Farther Along," "How Beautiful Heaven Must Be," and "There's Power In the Blood," with Mrs. Pat Holcomb playing the piano. A duet, "I'll Meet You in The Morning" was rendered by Mrs. Reece and Rev. Holt. Casket bearers were Kirby Whitley, Bus Harbison, Rile A. Tumbleson, Martin Henry, Jeff Satterwhite, and Frank Gentry. Interment was in the Verden cemetery with the Hansen Funeral Home in charge. James William Hays was born February 20, 1864, at Greenville, Texas, and died at 8:30 p. m. February 2, 1947, at his home, at the age of 82 years, 11 months, and 13 days. He married Miss Tina Dame January 4, 1893, in Falls County, Texas. They came to Verden in 1905 where he farmed until he retired several years ago, living in Verden since. He was converted 56 years ago and was a member of the Pentecostal Church of God at the time of his death. Surviving members of the family include his wife, one daughter, Mrs. Rose Topley, Chickasha; one son, R. H. Hays, Cogar, and six grandchildren. God touched him with his finger and he slept but not until a beautiful life was lived, a noble example of patience, fidelity to truth and faith were given. Not until visions of a heavenly life in Christ Jesus, had cheered and illumined the valley of the shodow. And now, that he sleeps, memory takes up the harp of life, and smiting the strings, finds that his virtues melt into music. So it ever is, when a life is nobly and divinely lived.
