Persons or organizations desiring to use this material for purposes other than stated above must obtain the written consent of the file contributor. ====================================================================== Chickasha, Oklahoma The Express-Star Thursday, July 27, 2000 Mary Alice Houk Funeral service for Mary Alice Houk, 100, of Chickasha, Oklahoma will be held at 130 p.m., Friday, July 28, 2000 in the Chapel of Sevier Funeral Home. Mary Alice Houk was born the 5th of 10 children to J. P. and Anna Mae [Paris] Nelson on September 26, 1899 near Sacred Heart, Oklahoma in Indian Territory and died Wednesday, July 26, 2000 in Chickasha. Five of the ten children lived past 90 years of age. Mrs. Houk lived in three centuries and saw many changes in the world during that time. She attended school at Tarter, a country school near their home. She and James Roy Houk were married September 28, 1917 near Sacred Heart, and in 1939 they moved their family to Chickasha on a farm west of town. Mrs. Houk was a homemaker and helped on the family farm. She attended Michigan Avenue Baptist Church for several years and joined the First Baptist Church in the late 1960s. She was active in several church organizations and clubs. Mrs. Houk was preceded in death by husband James Roy Houk in 1967; parents J. P. and Anna Mae Nelson; grandson Kenneth Brooks; 2 sons-in-law Jack Wimberly and Jim Haran; 4 brothers and 3 sisters. Survivors include 4 daughters Marie Brooks and husband, Vernon, of Garland, Texas, Alberta Wimberly of Garland, Texas, Fern Haran of San Diego, California, Jean Grisham and husband, Claris, of Chickasha, Oklahoma; 12 grandchildren Karen Ashlock, Christine Jones, Donna Karbs, Jan Hooker, Yvonne Cresswell, Dennis Haran, Don Haran, Bob Haran, Gary Grisham, Dena Keates, Debbie Brewer and Beth Cranton; 1 Sister; Margaret Knight of Vista, California; 1 brother Gene Nelson and wife, Jimmie Lee, of Duncan, Oklahoma; many great and great great grandchildren; many nieces and nephews.
