Maxine Hayes was born November 25, 1932, the daughter of Jennie Danley Shaw and Harrison Shaw, in a logging town by the name of Forester, Arkansas, of which I am told no longer exists. She went to be with her Lord on Wednesday March 22, 2006, in Chickasha after a lengthy illness. Maxine met Jesse Hayes and they were married on June 19, 1953, in Woodlake, California. This union blessed them with two daughters: Brenda and Jenny. They lived in California until 1970, when they moved to Oklahoma, where they settled near the small town of Ninnekah, later moving to Chickasha. Maxine worked for the Junior Social Workers Remarkable Shop for several years. She made many dear friends here and she cherished the friendship of her co-workers. She enjoyed spending time with her family, painting, and spending time with her church family as well as participating in the many activities at Grace Baptist Church. She was a very devoted wife, mother, sister and friend. Anyone who met her instantly loved her, because she was so caring and affectionate. She will be remembered for her humor, laughter, common sense wisdom, her banana pudding, and her chocolate pies. She was preceded in death by both parents; and one brother, Alvin Shaw. She is survived by her husband, Jesse Hayes, of the home; two daughters and sons-in-law: Brenda and Michael Rodgers, and Jenny and Mike Phillips, all of Chickasha; three granddaughters: Melanie Tillman and husband Jerry, Jennifer Tolman and husband Kenny, and Rachelle Phillips; two step grandchildren: Justin and Brandi Tillman; and two great-grandchildren on the way; and a dearly beloved sister and brother-in-law: Fern and Jim Johnson, of Farmersville, California. Maxine did not want anyone to grieve over her death she was ready to be with her Lord, and she wants everyone to consider her passing to be a celebration. There will be no public viewing for Mrs. Hayes. Services are under the direction of Ferguson Funeral Home. -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Return to Grady County Archives: http://www.usgwarchives.net/ok/grady/grady.html
