Persons or organizations desiring to use this material for purposes other than stated above must obtain the written consent of the file contributor. ====================================================================== The Chickasha Express-Star 8 May 2001 Michael Dee Hughes Funeral services for Michael Dee Hughes, 63, of Chickasha, will be held Wednesday, May 9, 2001, at 10:30 a.m. in the New Life Christian Church, with Gary Layman officiating and Charles Roberts assisting. Michael Dee Hughes was born March 28, 1938, in Cement, Oklahoma, the son of Hugh Hughes and Willa Moody Hughes. He died Sunday, May 6, 2001, in Chickasha. Mike came to Chickasha with his family as a young man, where he attended Chickasha Public Schools and graduated from Chickasha High School in 1956. He married Patsy June Werthen on October 23, 1961, in Chickasha. After graduation, Mike joined the United States Army. He retired in January 1977 after serving twenty-years. During his military service, he served in Vietnam, Korea, Germany and Okinawa. Mike returned to Chickasha after his military retirement and had been employed as a Systems Support Specialist, with Hollytex of Anadarko, Haliburton in Duncan, and the University of Science and Arts of Oklahoma in Chickasha. His last employment of nineteen years was with the City of Oklahoma City, where he retired due to health problems. He was a member of the New Life Christian Church. Mike was preceded in death by both parents and two sisters, Betty Keeton and Pat Samples. Survivors include his wife Patsy, of the home; three daughters and sons-in-law, Pamela and Kirk Stanley, Sheila and Jerry Layman, all of Chickasha, and Michelle and Eric Green, of Cyril; four grandchildren, Erika Stanley and Steven Layman, both of Chickasha, and Taylor and Courtney Green, both of Cyril; one brother, Robert Hughes, of Texas; his father-in-law, Mettie Werthen, of Chickasha; and several nieces and nephews. Memorials may be made to the New Life Christian Church, P.O. Box 1807, Chickasha, Oklahoma, 73023. Interment will be in the Fairlawn Cemetery under the direction of Ferguson Funeral Home.
