Bertha Hightower was born Aug. 6, 1936, in Anadarko, Okla., and died on Monday, Feb. 10, 2003, in Chickasha ========== The Chickasha Express-Star 12 February 2003 BERTHA HIGHTOWER Funeral service for Bertha Hightower, age 66, of Chickasha, Oklahoma, will be held at 2:30 p.m. on Thursday, February 13, 2003, in the First Presbyterian Church. Rev. Barbara Hunt will officiate. Bertha Hightower was born, the daughter of T. B. Atkins and Mary Ryan Atkins, on August 6, 1936, in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. She died on Monday, February 10, 2003, in Chickasha. Bertha grew up in Anadarko and Chickasha. She graduated from Chickasha High School in 1954. Bertha married Jimmy Hightower on July 11. 1954, in Anadarko. She lived in many places following her husband's work. Bertha returned to Chickasha in the late 1960s. She worked as a teacher's aide for several years. Bertha also worked at Carl's Studio for many years. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church where she sang in the choir. Bertha enjoyed sewing, gardening and yard work. She supported her sons in sports activities and was an avid sports fan. She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband. Survivors include: son: Bobby Hightower of Chickasha; daughter-in- law: Debbie Hightower of Chickasha; son: Jimmy Jon Hightower of Chickasha; daughter-in-law: Debbie Hightower of Chickasha; son: Craig Hightower of Chickasha; daughter-in-law: Michelle Hightower of Chickasha: son: Keith Hightower of Chickasha: daughter-in-law Melody Hightower of Chickasha; brother: Sam Atkins of Sulphur; sister: Margaret VanStrien of Hudsonville, Michigan; brother: Glenn Atkins of McCloud; sister: Annie Wudi of Stratford; brother: Nick Atkins of Chickasha; grandchildren: Kristin Hightower, Justin Hightower, Ryan Hightower, Jon Hightower, Jade Hightower, Kailea Hightower, Jamie Cusato, Jessica Hightower, Brandy Hightower, Kody Hightower; great grandchildren: Allyson Cusato; many nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews, and great, great nieces. Interment will be in the Fairlawn Cemetery.
