Burial will be in Fairlawn Cemetery under the direction of McRay Funeral Home. ========== The Chickasha Express-Star 26 January 2003 LELA HIGHTOWER Funeral service for Lela Hightower, age 89, of Chickasha, was held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 25, 2003, at the McRay Funeral Home Chapel. Rev. Gary Layman officiated. Lela was born the daughter of Robert Allen and Dollie Ward Allen, in August 29, 1913, in Mannsville, Oklahoma. She died on Thursday, January 23, 2003, in Chickasha. Lela moved to Grady County in her youth. She attended Union Hill School, east of Chickasha, were she played basketball. Lela married Woodrow F. Hightower on September 26, 1931, in Hawkins, Oklahoma. They lived in Grady County where they farmed until retirement. After retiring, Lela continued to raise her garden and enjoyed fishing. She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. She was a member of the New Life Christian Church. Lela was preceded in death by her parents, one sister, five brothers, her husband, Woodrow, on February 12, 1984, one son, Jimmy Allen Hightower, and one granddaughter, Vicky Don Hightower. Survivors include: Son: Don Hightower of Chickasha; seven grandsons: Bobby Don Hightower, Jimmy Jon Hightower, Craig Hightower, Keith Hightower, Heath Hightower, Doyle Hightower, all of Chickasha, and Dean Hightower of Littleton, Colorado; one granddaughter: Chrissa Hightower of Phoenix, Arizona; one daughter- in-law: Bertha Hightower of Chickasha; thirteen great grandchildren; one great great grandchild; many nieces and nephews. Interment was in the Fairlawn Cemetery.
