Wake service was held at 7:00 p.m., Friday, April 5, 2002, in the Chapel of Sevier Funeral Home. Rose Mary Hawkins was born of German immigrants from the Catholic colony of Simenofka, Russia, on August 25, 1915, in Okeene, Oklahoma. She died April 2, 2002, in Wichita, Kansas. Rose Mary was educated at St. Mary's Catholic school where she was a star basketball player. In 1937 she married Raymond Hawkins from Kingfisher, Oklahoma. They moved to Chickasha where he managed a gas station before starting Hawkins Implement Company. Rose Mary loved her church and was very active in Catholic Daughters and Altar Society. She was a nurse's aide at Grady Memorial Hospital, retiring in 1987. As a charter member of the Candlelighters extension club, she loved participating in the county fairs. Rose Mary was a devoted mother and grandmother whose love for family came second only to her love of God. She was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond Hawkins, her parents, John and Anna Maria Farhar, an infant son, Benny Ray, brothers Sam, Bernard, Joe and John Farhar, sisters Agnes Luetkemeyer and Tillie Descher Dill, and a granddaughter, Jana Lynn Hawkins. Survivors include: 4 sons and their wives: Don and Rhona Hawkins, of Westhope, N.D., Mark and Karen Hawkins, of Lewisville, TX, Gary and Susan Hawkins, of Whitewright, TX, Dennis and Nita Hawkins, of Broken Arrow, OK; 3 daughters and their husbands: Anita and Ross Elliott, of Del City, OK, Janet and the late Bob Shurtz, of Wichita, Kansas, Sheila and David Hart, of Chickasha, Oklahoma; 22 grandchildren: Misty Friend, Brett and Gavin Hawkins, Brad Conway, Hollie Helseth and Brooks Hawkins, Becky Ochoa, Bethany LeFlore, Matthew and Michael Hawkins, Scott and Jay Elliott, Kathy, Greg and Kenneth Shurt, Heather Rivas and Lacey Knoll, Ami, Adam, Aaron and Andy Haw kins, and Justin and Brandon Hawkins; 17 great grandchildren; 2 great great grandchildren; 2 brothers: Gus and Frank Farhar; 5 sisters: Jenny Descher, Mary Miller, Barbara Westfall, Teresa Peters and Wina Mae Woods. Interment will be in the Holy Name Section of Rose Hill Cemetery under the direction of Sevier Funeral Home. Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer Association.
