All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm ========================================================================== The Chickasha Express-Star 8 October 2004 CORA ELIZABETH [SHERWOOD] HAWKINS Funeral service for Cora Elizabeth Hawkins, age 75, of Chickasha, will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, October 8, 2004, in the Southern Oaks Church of Christ. Jim Sheerer will officiate. Cora was born August 27, 1929, the daughter of Frank Otto Sherwood and Edna Pearl Bell Sherwood. She died October 4, 2004, in Oklahoma City. She married Jacob Hawkins on October 13, 1059, in Durham, Oklahoma. Cora grew up in Moorewood, Oklahoma, and attended school in Hammon, Oklahoma. After graduation from Hammon High School, she attended Southwestern State University in Weatherford. Cora transferred to Central State University in Edmond and graduated with a bachelor of science degree in education. She then returned to Southwestern State in Weatherford and received her master's degree. Cora was a teacher for thirty-one years. During this time, she taught at Oklahoma City, Durham, Liberty Center, as well as New Mexico and Kansas. Cora was a member of the Southern Oaks Church of Christ. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, one brother, and two sisters. Survivors include: her son, Frank Hawkins of Johnson, Kansas; son, Joseph Hawkins of Chickasha; son, Hugh Hawkins of Ulysses, Kansas; son, Thomas Hawkins of Garden City, Kansas; daughter, Nancy Winchester of Liberal, Kansas; brother, Durward Sherwood of Hammon, Oklahoma; sister, Betty Maxwell of Rosamond, California; sister, Frances Ferrell of Leedey, Oklahoma; 10 grandchildren and four great grandchildren. Interment will be in the Fairlawn Cemetery. Services are under the direction of the McRay Funeral Home.
