Persons or organizations desiring to use this material for purposes other than stated above must obtain the written consent of the file contributor. ====================================================================== The Chickasha Express-Star 10 June 2002 JAMES (JIM) WENDELL HOOKER Funeral service for James (Jim) Wendell Hooker, age 72, of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, formerly of Chickasha, will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, June 11, 2002, in the Southern Oaks Church of Christ in Chickasha. Jim Sheerer will officiate. James (Jim) Wendell Hooker was born, the son of Harbert D. Hooker and Orleana Kreager Hooker, on March 1, 1930, in Abilene, Texas. He died on Saturday, June 8, 2002, in Oklahoma City. Jim was raised in Poplar Bluff, Missouri, and graduated from Poplar Bluff High School. He received his BA degree in Bible from Abilene Christian College in 1952. Jim lived in Abilene and owned a jewelry store across from the Abilene Christian College campus. In 1956, he moved to Oklahoma City where he worked as a costume jewelry salesman traveling through out Oklahoma, Arkansas, and parts of Texas. Jim moved to Chickasha in 1958 where he raised his family. In 1979, he moved back to Oklahoma City and purchased Gold-N -Ideas where he sold and designed custom jewelry. He was a member of the Drexel Avenue Church of Christ in Oklahoma City and the Central Church of Christ in Chickasha, where he served as an elder. Jim enjoyed sports, fishing, coaching baseball, grandchildren, great grandchildren, fixing things, and collecting watches. If he saw a person in need, he met their needs. His unlimited supply of "corny" humor made people remember and love him. Jim was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters. Survivors include: son and wife: Tony D. and Carol Hooker, of Memphis, Tennessee; son: Tom L. Hooker, of Memphis, Tennessee; daughter: Janis Ann Phillips, of Norman; sister: Jeanette Howell and her husband George, of Wichita, Kansas; former wife: Yvonne H. Hooker; five grandchildren; three great grandchildren; four Vietnamese adopted grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; other relatives and friends. Interment will be at the City Cemetery in Poplar Bluff, Missouri, alongside his father and mother, at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, June 12, 2002 Services will be under the direction of the McRay Funeral Home. The family will receive visitors at the funeral from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Monday, June 11, 2002.
