All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm ========================================================================== ::Rose Hill Cemetery--Chickasha OK © The Chickasha Express-Star Sunday, 5 March 2006 Mary Josephine "Jo" [Conrad] Hines Graveside service for Mary Josephine "Jo" Conrad Hines, age 89 of Chickasha, Oklahoma, will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, March 6, 2006, in Rose Hill Cemetery. Rev. Kim Domnick will officiate. Mary Josephine "Jo" Conrad Hines was born the daughter of James Jay Conrad and Mary Tennie Huffaker Conrad on November 4, 1916, in Chickasha. She died on March 3, 2006, in Chickasha. Jo was a lifetime resident of Chickasha. She graduated from Chickasha High School. While in high school, she was a member of the Chickettes Pep Club, Triple Trio, Glee Club and active in all music activities. After high school, she attended and graduated from Oklahoma College For Women- University of Science and Arts where she was a member of the Glee Club and Eche Se Social Club. Jo also did graduate work at the University of Oklahoma. She married Glen Edgar Hines on July 30, 1939, in Chickasha, where they celebrated 54 years of marriage. During World War II, she was a Grey Lady at Borden Park General Hospital, volunteer for the Red Cross knitting sweaters and worked at the Ration Board. Jo taught school for 21 years including Middleberg Schools, Chickasha Public School and Pioneer School where she was Assistant Principal. She was a member of the Epworth United Methodist Church. Jo is a past member of the McDowell Music Club, sang with the McDowell Trio, 1925 Study Club, Daughters of the American Revolution, American Association of University Women, Philo Mathis, active in PTA, Cub Scout Den Mother, Church Circle, several bridge clubs and a member of the OEA and NEA. After retiring in 1982, she was active in Eklettes, Sweet Adelines, Senior Citizens volunteer and Board Member, various church groups and traveled in numerous foreign countries and the United States. Jo was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, three brothers, Robert Jay "Bob" Conrad, Emery Jay Conrad, and Arthur Franklin Kelley, one sister, Gladys Jane Baker, grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. F. H. Huffaker and Mr. and Mrs. Adam Conrad. Survivors include: daughter & husband: Cathy & Don Simer of Chickasha; daughter & husband: Glenda & Jack Spears of Alex; son & wife: Jon & Marlene Hines of Mustang; five grandchildren: three step grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; two step great grandchildren; several nieces & nephews including Jo Conrad of Chickasha. Service will be under the direction of the McRay Funeral Home.
